Your TourVote Button Installation Instructions

Step 1

Open the page on which you want to install the TourVote button in a text editor (e.g. Windows NotePad) or in the HTML mode of your authoring tool (FrontPage, DreamWeaver, etc). Find HTML tag <head> or <HEAD>. Copy the first set of JavaScript code you received at the end of the sign-up process and paste it one line above that <head> or <HEAD> tag. This code defines the vote button function which a second block of code (see below) will then call one or more times to make the button functional wherever you place it on the page.

Step 2

The second set of code you received is the "button call" JavaScript code. This code will place a TourVote button on your web page in one or more locations of your choice. You may wish to have multiple TourVote buttons on the page, for example, next to several artist names or at several points in a concert calendar. This increases the likelihood that a visitor to the page will in fact vote. Simply place this same button call code at each desired location.

Step 3

At each location where you have placed the button call code, either replace ARTISTNAME with a particular artist's name or delete it. In either case, be careful that the single quotation marks surrounding it remain intact. If you are an artist and the button is on your own site, or if you are placing the button near a feature about a particular artist, then giving the voter an "expected" default name makes sense. If you want to encourage "open" voting, then a blank here makes sense. Whatever you substitute (a blank or a name) is what will pre-populate the artist field in the pop-up ballot window. Voters can always override a default name if you supply one.

Step 4

Place a brief message either directly above or below each TourVote button to explain what it is for. You may wish to use a font style that works with your page design. Here are some examples of text used successfully by other sites:
  • Who do you want to see LIVE?
  • Tell event promoters who you want to see LIVE !
  • Request the live show you really want
  • Bring your favorite artist to town
  • Vote to see [artist name] in your city !
  • What artist do you want to see at [venue name]?
  • (Or make up your own)

Step 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 on each page of your site where you want the TourVote button to appear. The more easily accessible the button is, the more likely your site visitors are to vote (and return to your site to vote again, and see future messages from TourVote reminding them of your site).

Step 6

Test your TourVote buttons. While most partners find the button code installs with no problems, it is always possible for something to go wrong. It's a good idea, once you have finished the installation, to click on each button instance. Check whether your logo appears correctly. Complete and submit a test vote (if you type in "test vote" as the artist name we will delete it later). Check your e-mail for the confirmation request (again, verifying that the logo and brief site name appear correctly) and click the confirmation link.

Step 7

Important! Please let us know when you have completed your installation and tested it (or if you have hit a snag and want our help). E-mail us the link(s) to the page(s) where you have placed the button(s) and a brief description of any issues you encountered in the process. Although we should have your contact information from your registration, it's a good idea to repeat it (including your telephone number).
